Life at Vrede Manor is perfect for me, Borris and Babbs, and we have been spending our days peacefully snoozing in the sunshine, interspersed with walks along the tow path with Borris being taken for longer walks on Milnerton Beach whilst Babbs and I snooze on the Stoep. We thought life should continue in this vein so you can imagine our concern at the recent ‘exciting' news that we were expanding our household from three pets, to 1003! Surely there won't be enough food to go round I exclaimed! Borris and Babbs had already said they weren't going to share any food, not to mention where were the additional 1000 pets going to sleep?! Well we needn't have worried. It turns out that our environmentally conscious dads have taken possession of a ‘CAN-O-WORMS'. In other words, a worm farm. They feed it on vegetable scraps, and the worms turn this into a constant supply of top quality fertilizer. The worms sleep on the farm, which to me looks like a small black dustbin. My other exciting news is that one of my favourite people, Auntie Karon has come to stay. I was a bit worried that she would like Borris and Babbs more than she does me, but I'm her favourite, and she gives me lots of cuddles and scratches me behind my ears - just how I like it. It was my birthday whilst she was here - my 13th! Auntie Karon brought me a digestive biscuit in bed - and I didn't have to share it, which makes a change. Borris is now at advanced dog school, and dad is very proud of him. I still think he's got a lot still to learn though because he has a very short attention span. He is also responsible for giving my dad a sprained ankle, tennis elbow, and a sore shoulder because he keeps pulling on the lead - something I never do! Borris has been ‘helping' Peter in the garden - by digging huge holes. Borris thinks this makes the garden look better, but Peter, Colin and Mark don't agree. Still, Borris is never in trouble for long - he just looks at you with those big brown eyes, and everyone just melts! Miss Babbs is adorable - she sleeps even more than I do, and I can always guarantee that she will find a good spot in the sun - usually on the sofa on the Stoep. It's really funny watching her give Borris a wash - she tells him off when he tries to move. Auntie Karon reckons she's teaching Borris how to purr - and I think she may be right because they certainly spend a lot of time together. Oh well, must go and do a bit more snoozing before it's time for supper. Please write to me and let me know about your pets - I'd love to hear from you. Love Todd |
