A tribute to Todd... Print E-mail

The best Welsh terrier in the world.

It is with great sadness that I (baby Borris) have to tell you that Todd very sadly past in January of this year. It has taken us all this long to come to terms with it, although many good things have happened in the last 8 months, we as a family have not been able to write about Todd's death. But I woke up this morning and decided that now was the time to put paw to PC and continue his legacy.

Todd's illness happened so quickly, Colin was overseas and Mark was busy with his work at Intergate Immigration, he noticed that Todd was not himself and also had a bit of a swollen back. He took Todd to the Vets. Five days later I was told he would not be coming back, Mark just sat and hugged me. I hope I was of some comfort to Mark; he was a great comfort to me. There were also so many phone calls ....... from all our friends and Colin all this time was grieving in England. We all got through those terrible few days and we were all relived when Colin arrived back home and we were a family once again. The one thing we all realised was that because it all happened so quickly Todd did not suffer in any way, and our vet was so kind in everything he did as he only had Todd's welfare and comfort at heart.

Colin and Mark often reminisce on Todd's life and all the things he got up too, from all accounts he led quite the high life and in his younger day was quite a party boy. Read on to find out more!

Todd started out as an adventurer from day one. Mark collected him as a 12 week old puppy from North Wales and brought him down by train to London, where they were both met by Colin and taken back to their home (a true Palace) in south London.

By all accounts that night he slept well, although he was confined to the kitchen. In the morning, Colin carried him upstairs and both proud dads played with him on the bed (I never got that treatment....I'm not jealous though!). Colin and Mark, not having been parents before, thought that little 12 week old Todd would be able to walk down the stairs, NOooooo, he fell down. He was whimpering and crying, of course they hadn't yet registered him with a vet and were panicking and didn't really know what to do, so whilst Mark was trying to calm him down Colin got a phone number for the vets, but by the time he had done that Todd had made a full recovery and was happily running around the drawing room.

Later that same day, Todd was in the garden and his Uncle Steve was coming to visit. Uncle Steve and our Dads spent the whole time chasing him around the garden, as all Todd wanted to do was chase Rabbits and run into the bonfire they had going! That's my boy!

A little while later Mark and Colin were taking a well earned holiday overseas, and the Grandparents had been asked to house sit and look after Todd. On one of the many walks in the woods Todd saw a fox, he was off like a shot to try and catch it, he ran and ran and soon Grandma Hilda and Grandpa Andrew lost sight of him. They were so distraught, got back to the house and immediately organised a search party. Four hours later he was found a mile away sitting, quite happily, in someone's front garden. Colin and Mark were not told about this adventure for several weeks, as our Grandparents thought they may not be asked to look after Todd again!

A few months later and Colin and Mark got to experience Todd's wonder lust.

Late one evening when it was nearly time for bed, Todd wanted to go outside, Colin let him out and whoosh he was off again, this time after a badger. Both Colin and Mark called and called for him to come back but to no avail, they had a sleepless night, wrote out flyers and made posters to put up on walls to help with the search. At 7.30 in the morning he was found sitting in another back garden. The look on his face said it all, it's about time you found me, I want my breakfast!

When living in London Todd has his own personal walker who came in and took him out every day whilst his dads were at work, the neighbours all thought he was a very lucky chap, they wanted to be walked as well (humans!) as she was such a pretty lady. Please can someone tell me why I don't get the same treatment here, I know my Dads are at home most of the time but that's not the point!

Todd was also a well travelled companion and when living in England travelled everywhere with our dads, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Staying in five star hotels or at friends houses. He had his own personal tour of Cliveden. Once in Scotland staying in a very fine hotel, he was allowed by the restaurant manager to choose a piece of cheese from the cheese trolley as a bed time snack! Don't tell Gordon Ramsey as it was one of his restaurants! I don't think I would be allowed..... I would want to eat the whole trolley.

There are so many stories that our dads have been talking about, but of course his greatest adventure of all was moving here to South Africa and of course getting me as his baby brother, how could he not fall in love with soppy old me, with my big paws and floppy ears. To hear more wait for my next entry!

Till then its bye for now, Borris - also known as Bo bo, and baby Borris, I answer to them all xxx
